About National Acute Critical Event Simulation (N-ACES)

Recently, the N-ACES course governance moved from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons to the Canadian Critical Care Society. Along with our intensivist-instructors from across Canada, our new course co-chairs, Drs. Damian Paton-Gay and Tobias Witter have updated content incorporating the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons Subspecialty Training Requirements for critical care.

Introduction

This annual course is an excellent opportunity for residents to network and meet their colleagues from across the country and a shared start to their training will help foster lifelong friendships and collaborations. The goal of N-ACES is to rapidly upgrade the trainees’ knowledge and skills in the early management of critically ill patients. The course follows a small group learning approach using multiple modes of instruction, including a high proportion of experiential learning through a variety of simulation modalities (e.g. facilitated virtual case scenarios, phone simulation, etc.) and interactive group sessions with expert critical care faculty.

Audience

N-ACES welcomes critical care trainees from the 13 adult critical care programs in Canada as an introductory preparatory largely simulation-based experience.
